Nightlight A Parody The Harvard Lampoon 9780307476104 Books

I bought this because of the great price (.99+S&H media mail) so I couldn't go wrong. Plus I have been interested in reading this story for a hot minute now anyways.
I received it pretty quick (for MM it was really fast actually)& the book itself was in good, used, shape, just as described. Thank you Yankee Clipper Books.

The story itself was a cute parody of the first Twilight story. Not gory, sexual, graphic, etc. Just pokin fun at Bella and Edward and the gang.

I am a dipped and dyed Twi-Hard, but I have a sense of humor so these parodies do not insult me or make me cry. I take them for what they are, as I do a story about vampires that are vegetarians ;)

If you like (or don't) Twilight and wanna read a short fast paced parody check this bad boy out. I have read funnier ones but this held it's own in that genre.

I'll be reviewing it on my blog soon..Come by and say hi Books and Beyond[...]

Nightlight A Parody The Harvard Lampoon 9780307476104 Books Reviews

If you love parodies, this book is for you. This takes a hilarious spin on the Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. This book is short, so it's easy to get through. My copy has been well loved by many of my friends who have read it. It's a book to pick up if you're having a grumpy day, and need to have. good laugh.
This book truly had some laugh out loud moments, but other times it left me feeling like the book was trying too hard to be a parody. Sadly the laughter was rare and you had to trudge through a lot of unfunniness in order to reach the next good joke. I have read better parodies, and would recommend checking out "Blogging Twilight on SparkLife (it's free!) for some really fantastic humor instead of wasting your money on a halfhearted attempted to milk the Twilight cash cow.
After reading the first two Twilight books, I decided to check this out. I thought this book was a hilarious spoof of Twilight. Belle Goose was clumsy, ridiculous and funny. She thought too highly of herself and assumed everybody wanted to be with her. When she returns to Switchblade, Oregon, she runs into a nerd named Edwart Mullen. After Edwart saves her from a flying snowball, Belle assumes that he is a vampire and falls in love with him. Will Belle ever learn what Edwart truly is? I highly recommend NIGHTLIGHT!!!
We read this as a family side by side with Twilight. Nightlight was so hilarious our sides were hurting from laughing so hard. The main character is much more likable in Nightlight as well.

Reading Twilight to get the general feeling of the book was also very revealing. At one point Bella calls a nice human boy at the high school her "golden retriever" for being so nice and friendly. Hearing and reading Twilight out loud brought out the inferior workmanship of the author and reveals Bella as the sniveling, stuck-up, ungrateful little snot that she is. The writing is so poor that we laughed out loud during Twilight readings almost as much as Nightlight.

Nightlight is a delight!
It's not great, but it isn't half bad either. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I felt that some of the jokes fell flat and that it was just a messy, boring, overly complicated, and worse, not even that funny, just wreck. I mean, occasionally some jokes are good, but everything just is ugh. Then at the end, you are introduced to a brand new character who isn't making fun of anyone. Anh, 3 stars was generous. Personally, it felt like they were more trying to tell a knock off story than actually make fun of Twilight.
So I've newly discovered parody books. Everyone that knows me, knows that I have a very strange and deranged sense of humor. I laugh about things that most people say, "That's just wrong." I am who I am, and there isn't much I can do about it.

I did get bit by the twilight bug (no pun intended) a while back. I can appreciate the attempt to reinvent the vampire the way Myers did. But I can just as easily find humor in the entire over-the-top theatrics of the story also, and that is what made nightlight great.

When I was asked if this book was any good, my plain response was "If you haven't read the Twilight series, you're not doing to understand 60% of the jokes."

If you have a sense of humor over pop culture, and don't mind a short read, I would suggest checking it out for nothing more than a few good laughs.
This book is for Twilight Lovers and Haters; I myself being in the middle of the love/hate relationship found it to be absolutely hysterical. If you read Twilight first, this book will make so much more sense, and if you read them at the same time it makes Nightlight twice as funny. Sometimes it can be a little over the top, but otherwise it had me rolling with laughter. It pokes fun at every single thing that you thought was ridiculous from the original and that is what makes this novel so entertaining. I was surprised at how small the book was because I thought it would be the size of twilight but it is more like a short story than anything, although it does cover pretty much every scene from the original. I gave it a four because I thought that sometimes it did go a little too far, but otherwise still worth it. Definitely worth buying and adding to your collection of books. A great, witty read that will keep me entertained for months.
